After three years I finally completed my Certificate in Documentary Arts from the Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) at Duke University! My final project, The Guardians of History, debuted on Friday, April 25th at the Full Frame Theater in Durham, North Carolina, and features seven archivists in the Technical Services Department at the Rubenstein Library (where I work). The documentary piece (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YToexPUI3vg) explores why we archivists do what we do.
About a year ago I was fortunate to be a part of the Hearing is Believing Audio Institute at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. It was a heady week - we not only learned about recording and digital audio-mixing, but also published a short audio piece (listen to it here). Armed with the right tools and the best intentions I envisioned creating and publishing my own pieces, but alas life stepped in (a new job and learning German) and the audio recorder sat unused.
